Cast & Characters of The O.C. >> Alan Dale (Caleb Nichol)

Alan Alan Dale was born in Dunedin, New Zealand, where he started appearing in his parents' amateur theatre group at age 12. In his first play, his leading lady turned out to be the mother of one of his mates, and he was so embarrassed about having to kiss her, they just pretended to kiss.

After school, he moved to Auckland. He married at twenty-one, and found work as a milk man. While making deliveries, he heard the breakfast radio announcer state that he was quitting. Alan finished delivering the milk and went and applied. He got the job.

In 1979, at age 31, he got divorced and moved to Australia to further his career. Ten days after arriving in Sydney, he landed his first television role in "The Young Doctors." After three years as "Dr. John Forest", he went on to star in the Australian soap, "Neighbours" as "Jim Robinson," his defining role, for eight years.

Post "Neighbours", he and his wife Tracey moved to Los Angeles, where Alan has been seen a large number of U.S. television programmes, including "ER", "Navy NCIS", "The X Files", "The O.C." and "The Practice", as well as movies such as "Star Trek: Nemesis" and "X-Men".
