Jason Toon reports:Another week, another band of British adolescents storming the colonies to save rock and roll. This time it's the Subways, a London trio who won't be allowed to legally drink when they reach the States. Evidently all of Britain has been apoplectic over these youths since July, when their debut, Young for Eternity, hit the High Street shops.
"Hormonal exuberance!" raves Q. "Impressive!" gushes The Guardian. "The next big thing!" enthuses The Sun. "Who the hell are the Subways?" asks America.
Well, we'll be sick of them soon enough, as the band has landed a cut on the Music from the O.C.: Mix 5 comp, namely "Rock & Roll Queen," which will also be the first single from the U.S. release of Young for Eternity when it comes out here in February. They will also perform on "The O.C." on November 18, apparently the only musical act that will appear on the show this season. Subways, meet Death Cab; Death Cab, meet Subways.
Forsaking some potentially lucrative import sales (or, more likely, a non-lucrative file-sharing frenzy), Sire will issue the same version of the debut LP that the Brits got. Until then, visit the official Subways site and the album will be loudly streamed at you whether you like or not. Like a counselor at a heroin clinic, you're looking for the tracks:
01 I Want to Hear What you Have Got to Say 02 Holiday 03 Rock & Roll Queen 04 Mary 05 Young For Eternity 06 Lines of Light 07 Oh Yeah 08 City Pavement 09 No Goodbyes 10 With You 11 She Sun 12 Somewhere 13 At 1AM
While a full-blown U.S. tour will have to wait until February, the Subways are following the time-honored gambit of playing a few teaser shows in American media capitals to titillate the glitterati. But first, they've got college kids and other NME readers to please back in the motherland:

Question: Please give me something on The O.C. — Nicole (tvguide.com)
Ausiello: I recently spoke to the show's new breakout star, Autumn Reeser, about the forthcoming redemption of her bitcheriffic alter ego, Taylor Townsend. "There's definitely a sweet side to Taylor, and I think we're going to get to see a little of that," she says. "She's not just a one-dimensional character who's out to get these people. She just wants what she wants, and she knows how to get it. But we're going to see her feeling a little bit guilty." What exactly prompts this sudden attack of conscience? "She goes home and [realizes that] she doesn't have any friends." Other poop niblets dropped by Reeser: Taylor's affair with Dean Hess gets exposed in November, right around the time we meet Taylor's mom — played by Pacific Blue (and Santa Barbara) grad Paula Trickey. But here's the news that's really got me excited: Reeser has started sharing scenes (and possibly more?) with Ben McKenzie's Ryan. "Taylor and Ryan are a very odd match in a scene," she laughs, adding that a romance between the two would be "hysterical." Note to Josh Schwartz: Make this happen and I'll forgive you for Oliver.
Matt Amis reports: Here at Pitchfork, we sometimes like to give "The O.C." a hard time. We know, we know...fish in a barrel, right? Is it justified? Probably. But at the same time, we realize that the kids will always have that one Of The Moment teen-centric television show to gravitate towards and make us say things like "OMIGAWD, my life is, like, SO just like that!" Before "The O.C." it was "Dawson's Creek", before that, "Beverly Hills, 90210". The lineage goes all the way back to, um, "Happy Days". We think.
More importantly, "The O.C." has excelled in bringing hip music to those aforementioned yoof. In four previous compilation soundtrack albums, artists like the Futureheads, Spoon, A.C. Newman, Interpol, Modest Mouse, and famously, Death Cab for Cutie, have all been exposed to the Children of Newport Beach.
On November 8, that tradition will continue, as Warner Brothers will release Music from The O.C. Mix 5, which features such Pitchfork all-stars as LCD Soundsystem, Of Montreal, Stars, and Rogue Wave. Back once again is Frou Frou's Imogen Heap, whose "Goodnight And Go" appeared on Music From The O.C. Mix 4. This time around, her song "Hide and Seek" (which received an orgasmic five-star rating from our own Amy Phillips a few months back) closes out the CD. There's also a new version of the show's theme song, Phantom Planet's "California". Look at it this way: With "The O.C." choosing our music for us, it gives us more time to answer the important questions in life. Namely, 'OMG how will Marissa deal in that smelly old public school??' Daft punk is playing at Seth's house:
01 The Subways: "Rock & Roll Queen" 02 Kasabian: "Reason Is Treason" 03 Shout Out Louds: "Wish I Was Dead Pt. 2" 04 LCD Soundsystem: "Daft Punk Is Playing at My House" 05 Rogue Wave: "Publish My Love" 06 Youth Group: "Forever Young" 07 Of Montreal: "Requiem for O.M.M." 08 Gorillaz: "Kids With Guns" 09 Kaiser Chiefs: "Na Na Na Na Naaa" 10 Stars: "Your Ex-Lover Is Dead" 11 Phantom Planet: "California 2005 (Whistling)" 12 Imogen Heap: "Hide and Seek"

On the WB tonight:
Wednesday, it's a beach party on a fresh One Tree Hill at 8/7c, followed by Related, 9/8c. Rose (Laura Breckenridge), embraces her new college major in experimental theater, but finds herself attracted to her acting partner (guest star Chris Carmack, "The O.C").
Do the producers of this show have some sort of contract with the people over at The O.C.? First Theresa (Navi Rawat) is transformed from potentially unwed mother to Amita, a physics genius with a regular gig. And now Orange County's offbeat Anna (Samaire Armstrong) makes an appearance as a famous, scantily clad pop star. Just an odd coincidence? And not to dwell on the guest stars too much, but it did disturb me a little bit that I recognized the rap guy's assistant from the movie Honey. Yeah, that made me worry — but I swear, I saw it for work. I did think it was interesting that adorkable math geek Charlie revealed his membership in the sundial club, and was able to calculate the exact location of the stalker's house. That's pretty impressive stuff; otherwise the rest of the episode was pretty much by the book. But on a Friday night, I'll take what I can get. — AC
