Welcome to The O.C., "Funny Bitch!" On Tuesday, Lucky magazine threw a very exclusive soiree in Penthouse 64 of the Hollywood's Chateau Marmont, in honor of Rachel Bilson, their September cover girl. Rachel was chatting up friends on the balcony (and canoodling with Adam Brody, awww) when I stole a few seconds to ask her about Summer's new rival this season, Taylor Townsend. Josh Schwartz told me that Taylor will try to take over the social-chair position at Harbor, so we'll get to see "old throw-down bitchy Summer back in action."
Rachel's face lit up at the mere mention of Taylor, played by actress Autumn Reeser: "Omigod, she is awesome! She's like Tracy Flick from Election, you know? I've been having a blast because Summer's bitchy side is always done with a sense of humor, so it's really fun to be, like, the funny bitch as opposed to just, like, the unlikable bitch." Vote for Trey as the Best Baddie in The Tator Tot Awards and any other favorites.
CHOICE KUDOS: I finally figured out what's wrong with the Emmy voting process: They've been sending grown-ups to do a teenager's job. To wit: At the 2005 Teen Choice Awards this weekend, Gilmore Girls was named best TV comedy and stars Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham won best actress and best parental unit respectively. On the drama side, The O.C. walked off with three trophies, including best drama, best actor for Adam Brody and best actress for Rachel Bilson. On the movie side, The Notebook scored a leading eight awards while Napoleon Dynamite nabbed four. And proving that no one — not even teenagers — is perfect, The House of Wax won three awards, including two for stars Chad Michael Murray and Paris Hilton. The show airs Tuesday at 8 pm/ET on Fox. Question: I demand information on the new season of The O.C.! — Rachael Ausiello: Well, here it comes! As I reported in Entertainment News last Friday, Autumn Reeser (Complete Savages) is joining the cast as bitch-on-wheels Taylor Townsend, a new rival for Rachel Bilson's Summer. (If you're thinking, "Hey — Autumn/Summer, that's ingenious," you're a little late to the party.) Well, what I didn't tell you in Friday's Entertainment News was the reason they're rivals. (MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!) In the wake of shooting Trey, Marissa gets kicked out of Harbor and is forced to attend public school — leaving what series creator Josh Schwartz calls a huge "power vacuum" at Harbor. "Taylor wants to take over not only the social chair, but the school," he says. "And Summer is going to do her best to stand up for Marissa's honor. It's going to be really fun to see Summer back in bitch mode, not afraid to throw down and stand up for her friend."
Question: More O.C., please? — Matt Ausiello: Seth and Summer will have one less obstacle to deal with this season. Michael Cassidy won't be back as Zach. "He's off in Marin County working for Lucasfilm," Josh Schwartz says. Also, we're finally going to see the rest of Summer's house. "All of the scenes will not be set in her bedroom this year," he says. "You'll see Summer's kitchen, you'll see Summer's backyard — it's gonna blow your mind." One thing we won't see: Summer's infamous stepmonster. "She's usually passed out on painkillers," Schwartz points out. "She wouldn't be much fun." I beg to differ. Hand me some shaving cream and a razor and let the fun begin! (tvguide.com)
