2003's Most Daring TV Top 10 shows that broke the rules, kept us guessing By Dave McCoy for MSN Entertainment
4. "The O.C." (FOX) Easily the most fun and entertaining new show of the year is the same one I mocked when I first saw the ads during the World Series. Not another "Melrose Place"/"90210"-esque examination of the rich and brainless, I thought. Well, actually, nope, it's not that at all. "The O.C." has writers who actually know how to write! Characters are three-dimensional and the show had you loving them by the second episode. And unlike those soap operas that took themselves SO seriously, "The O.C." knows its genre and lovingly, with tongue firmly in cheek, adores mocking itself and its characters. Though labeled as a teen drama, there are more laughs to be found in this show than 90 percent of so-called sitcoms. The majority of those laughs come from patriarch, Sandy Cohen, played by Peter Gallagher in a role that finally showcases his talents, or his wise-ass, quick-witted son, Seth (the irreverent Adam Brody). This is a show that respects its audience's intelligence, and in return we'll follow it anywhere. (thanx Mom!)

In US Magazine this week, the cast is in all denials of their relationships with each other, Micha is asked how she will keep of the holiday weight and she says she'll be in Ireland probably jogging 'cause there are no gyms there and Samaire Armstrong's outfit choice for the VH1 Big Awards is questioned and remarked in an unfavorable light. ____________________
In Entertainment Weekly this week, The OC is #8 in the best of television. ____________________
From TVGuide's Televisionary Question: Could you tell me more about the actress who plays Summer on The O.C.? — Sasha Televisionary: Not a whole lot, but I'll happily give you what I've got. Rachel Bilson, 22, was born in L.A. and lives here still. Before landing a steady gig on The O.C. ("ew!"), she appeared on such shows as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, 8 Simple Rules and Human Target. You may also have been among the few who caught her on the big screen in The Wrong Guys. ____________________
I had this strange feeling yesterday that I was missing someone's birthday...and sure enough, I just found out I did. Chris Carmack ("Luke")'s b-day was yesterday, December 22. He is now 23yrs old. As Jessica Simpson would say, "23 is almost 25 and 25 is almost mid 20s!".

Thank you Megan for sending in this info:
As you may know, the band Rooney is going to appear on the OC's next episode. The band will play two of their songs and play a role in the show, those songs can be found at www.bandbuilder.com/rooney. Their website is hosting an OC contest at www.rooney-band.com/theoc, which will go live on December 29th. This is great news to post on your OC site. Enjoy the show!
From Ana: The O.C.--Ben and Mischa, Adam and Rachel. So many rumors. Are any true? As I mentioned in last week's chat, Ben and Mischa sure looked very much together--more cuddly and gropey than Grover. The word floating around is they've been together for a few months. As for Adam and Rachel, to my knowledge, they are not together. I know he had a girlfriend who was not Rachel when the show began...not sure if that's still on, but either way, I'm told they are just good friends.
From hacker2093: Adam told Craig Kilborn on Friday that he and Rachel are not dating. Didn't catch that. Thanks.
From evanichole: What's coming up on The O.C.? Speaking of The O.C., I hear that Anna (Samaire Armstrong) is going to be shipped off to the East Coast in the 20th episode. If that is true, words cannot describe the magnitude of which that sucketh. We'll have to start a campaign to save her.
From superphred1: I know you are just dying to give us O.C. spoilers! I need my fix. Okay, here's a good one: I heard that Luke sleeps with one of the elders. And by elder, I mean parental unit and not grandpa Caleb. ____________________
Best and Worst in TV Guide Magazine snippit Best Eyebrows The O.C.'s Peter Gallagher. They deserve an Emmy. Don't trim 'em, Pete. Check out TV Guide to see if there is any more OC mentions.
