This is a long one. LOTS of stuff from Kristin at E! Since I wasn't able to report yesterday, I didn't get to tell you that Melinda Clarke was chatting with Kristin and other E! Online chatters yesterday. But, I can provide you with some info.
Hey tube tops! So nice of you to join us. Melinda Clarke of The O.C. is here (you know and love her as Julie Cooper), so we'll be digging into plenty of O.C. goodies today. I'll also be answering your usual tube queries after she has go.
From Jamie_from_Denver: I love to hate you, but I would also love to love you. Is there any hope that Julie Cooper's backstory will explain her coldness? Melinda: I think the future is going to reveal a lot of interesting things about Julie. I'm not sure it will explain her coldness. I personally think of her as misguided and doing what is necessary to take care of her family. If Julie were a man, she would be strong and not a bitch. I like to call her the female J.R. (from Dallas) in drag. Bottom line, the chances of you loving Julie are going to be slim. From OC_Fan: Why aren't Melinda Clarke's photo and name in the opening credits? Because, in the beginning, I was just a guest star. I was told they were very happy with Rachel (Summer), Chris (Luke) and me, so it will happen very soon. From howfunkychicken: Was it weird at first playing Marissa's mom, when you're too young to be her? No. I'm an actress who plays older than I am. It's just another acting role. As an actress, you put yourself in that place. Especially in Orange County, (and other places) you see moms and daughters who look 10 years apart. From indygirl1438: Since you have previously worked on a soap opera, could you explain how it is different to working on The O.C.? They shoot a whole script a day on a soap. On The O.C., we have storylines that are resolved at the end of the episode, which takes eight days to shoot. Daytime soaps are fantastic training for actors, though. You work harder on those than on almost anything. From doppleganger6899: You're awesome on The O.C. Didn't you also guest on some eps of CSI? Yes. I loved working on CSI, but it's almost impossible to do both. I would love to do it though. I think Lady Heather is one of my favorite characters. She's so different from Julie.
From Sarah: Do you feel like the writers are softening your character--making you less dragon lady and more of an actual human parent? Yes, the way Julie was introduced was in the Newport social scene, and that's the front she wants people to see. I always thought she was a human being, and they are writing scenes that show that. Up to this point, we've only seen Julie pissed off, but at a certain point, she realizes she's lost a husband and almost a daughter. From nygemini101: What is your favorite part of working on The O.C.? I get to say things I would never say to people in real life. That line when I told Marissa she's grounded and she asks if she has to go to my party and Julie says starting tomorrow, I won't have your sticky fingers ruining my party. I just kept laughing when we did that line. She's just ballsy. To me, it would be interesting to see this woman unravel and have to build herself up or to see Julie and Jimmy try therapy. From lisamr: How has your life changed since you joined The O.C.? I do get recognized. Though, actually, I cut my hair for the show. I go to Paris and come back with short hair. But, on the other hand, I haven't changed. I don't look like Julie when I'm in sweats pushing my daughter's stroller. Okay, guys. Melinda had to jet. Thanks so much to her for being here. She's rocks the Casbah. Now, let's get dishing. ____________________
Here's the continuation of the E! chat without Melinda with some interesting tidbits...
From Jen: Who does Seth pick on The O.C.? I'm dying! Rumor has it he chooses neither, but I hear that a new guy sets his sights on both Anna and Summer, which drives the girls nutso since they always seem to be in competition. From deesbees: Anything more on The O.C.? I'd say this is something (actually, a little somethin'-somethin'), but you be the judge: Mischa Barton and Benjamin McKenzie were spotted "all over each other" at the Motorola party last week. Word is they were dancing very close, looking very cozy, and at one point, he had his hands up the back of her shirt. Hmmm...
From Freddiejean: More Gilmore! Lane's band gets a gig in New York City, but Mrs. Kim makes her quit when Lane stays out all night without calling--which frees up Adam Brody officially. ____________________
Info on The Simple Life party from Kristin at E!
The O.C.'s Rachel Bilson (Summer), gave it (the Simple Life party) two enthusiastic (and well-manicured, I might add) thumbs up. "I love the show! I would be the same way about plucking chickens. That's just, ewww. There's no way." (Pitch to Fox: The Simple Life 2: The O.C. in Oklahoma. How great would that be?) Sporting a flannel shirt (to get in the farm groove), Rachel said she's meeting more fans on the road, literally. "Just tonight," she said, "I was driving here and this guy, a stoner-like guy, screamed, 'Whoooa! The O.C.!' at me. He's the kind of guy you'd never think would know about The O.C. It was really funny." Meanwhile, she gave her take on the sex scandal. "It sucks, because it's Paris' personal business," she said of the sex tape. "You trust someone, and you're in a relationship with someone and that happens to you--it sucks. I respect her for coming out here and doing her thing with all of this going on." ____________________
